Overview (English)

Up to date science and technology in modern society have been specialized deeply and subdivided finely. Also cutting edge fields in an interdisciplinary research and/or in a boundary between research fields have been developed. As a result, people majoring in such fields as the humanities may not fully understand today’s science. And researchers in a slightly different field are sometimes talking at cross purposes. Under these situations, modern society needs not only experts in specific fields, but also scientists with much knowledge. Such scientists can explain clearly the scientific contents, based on the familiarity with the history of any given science and a systemic understanding of the totality of natural science. Now scientific translators of the discussion about science and technology are very much in demand.

“This department brings up a talented person with comprehensive insights and healthy judgments into science who can play an active part in various fields as a bridge between science and society.”

Our department of natural science has long advocated such educational goals and was established to nurture a talented person in response to the needs of modern society. While making use of the curiosity of young people for mathematics and sciences, we develop the insight and judgment skills which are necessary for them to succeed as intellectual scientists and engineers.
